Exploited addresses the extraction and consumption of the Lebanese Cedar tree (Cedrus libani) by various civilizations throughout history. Deforestation of Mount Lebanon’s cedar forests dates back to the ancient Canaanites, who felled and sold the cedars to neighboring civilizations. In Egypt and Mesopotamia, Lebanese Cedars were used for building palaces, temples, ships, furniture, and tombs, and their resin was used for medicinal and ceremonial purposes, including mummification.

Deforestation continued under early settlements of Druze and Maronites in the Lebanese highlands, who cleared forests to make way for settlements and farms, and also at the hands of Ottoman and British Empires, who used Lebanese Cedar timber for the construction of railroads and other infrastructure.

Today, the protection of the most visited Cedrus libani forests—Shouf Biosphere and Cedars of God—effectively functions as a form of “greenwashing” for the warlords who proclaimed themselves the stewards of the land in the aftermath of the Lebanese Civil War.

"مستغَلة" يتناول موضوع استخراج واستهلاك الأرز اللبناني (واسمه العلميّ: "سِدرَس ليباني") على أيدي مختلف الحضارات عبر التاريخ. يعود تاريخ إزالة غابات الأرز في جبل لبنان إلى زمن الكنعانيين القدماء، الذين قاموا بقطع أشجار الأرز وبيعها للسكان المجاورين. في مصر القديمة وبلاد ما بين النهرين، اسُتخدم الأرز اللبناني في بناء القصور والمعابد والسفن والأثاث والمقابر، واسُتخدم الراتنج الصمغيّ منه للأغراض الطبية والاحتفالية كالتحنيط. في المرتفعات اللبنانية، استمرت إزالة الغابات إبان المستوطنات الأولى للدروز والموارنة، الذين أزالوا مساحات الغابات لإفساح المجال أمام المنازل والمزارع. أُزيل المزيد من الأشجار على يد الإمبراطوريتين العثمانية والبريطانية تتالياً، اللتين استخدمتا أخشاب الأرزة اللبنانية لبناء سكك الحديد وغيرها من البنى التحتية. وفي يومنا هذا، حمايتا غابتَي الأرز اللبناني الأكثر زيارةً – محمية الشوف المحيط الحيوي وأرز الرب – تعملان بشكل فعال كشكل من أشكال "الغسيل الأخضر" لتبييض وجه جرائم زعماء الفصائل الذين أعلنوا أنفسهم حراساً للأرض في أعقاب الحرب الأهلية اللبنانية
